Our Approach
Private one to one tuition is at the heart of what we do. The connection between a pupil and a tutor has the potential to engage, inspire, and deliver academic success.
Our one to one tuition is provided on an hourly basis, both in person and online. Tutors will travel to family homes to deliver such lessons in person, and can be booked for travelling placements outside the U.K, or residential placements within.
We take great care to recruit outstanding tutors; charismatic and effective educators, with experience of exam systems and a proven track record of success. We check references, insist on enhanced DBS checks, and insist on a two-stage interview process, including in-person meetings, so that we only deliver proven, trusted tutors.
Although we provide exceptional tutors, we also provide a layered service, with support from our educational consultants and client managers. Our tutors will work to clear educational objectives, delivered by the assessments we arrange, and we will help to pass on their feedback and advice so that parents are kept informed and involved at all times.

Entrance Exam Tuition – 11+, 13+, 7+ and 8+
Winterwood has a reputation for helping students to access academically competitive independent schools. We have helped thousands of students across their target schools. Sometimes, as many as 10% of the intake of leading schools will have worked with Winterwood tutors prior to entrance exams.
We have a wealth of experience with the following exam systems – for more information, please contact our entrance exam lead, Dr Tom Parkinson, below.
ISEB Pre-test – we are familiar with the entire ISEB syllabus, and we use resources tailored to this exam system. We insist students use Century Tech https://www.century.tech/ the exam provider.
Consortium Exam – we make sure all students are familiar with the five components of the Consortium exam. Students used our teaching resources alongside Atom https://atomlearning.com/ the exam provider.
CAT & InCAS – in-school testing is a very important part of the process, as standardised scores will be shared with senior schools. We offer dedicated CAT and InCAS tutorials and resources.
7+ and 8+ – we have many years experience of preparing students for this point of entry. The material is much more challenging than content in the school curriculum. We ensure students are ready for this transition.
11+ Written Exams – many schools set their own written exams, or have a difficult second stage written exam. As assessment does not end with online testing, we make sure students are well prepared for this format.
