11+ Masterclass – October Half Term, 19-22 October

This course will focus on building high-level exam skills for students applying to academically competitive schools. The course will cover all 11+ exam subjects – English, maths, verbal reasoning, and non-verbal reasoning – and will finish with a short, multiple-choice assessment with detailed marking and feedback.

The course is specifically designed for students about to take the ISEB Pretest and Consortium exam.

It will focus on multiple-choice format questions, and will cover challenging questions which students tend to be less familiar with – sentence completion, shuffled sentences, counting cubes, assembling cubes, maths puzzles and other new question types.

Day I, we will focus on non-verbal reasoning, particularly 3D and spatial reasoning which is now a feature of many 11+ exams and the forthcoming Consortium Pretest.

Day II, we will target verbal reasoning. The focus will be on vocabulary questions such as verbal similarities, synonyms, antonyms, and cloze sentence completion, along with shuffled sentences.

Day III, we will focus on English. Students will work on different tiers of comprehension questions to replicate last year’s exams, which were highly adaptive. They will also work through exam format spelling and punctuation questions.

Day IV, the final day and we will focus on maths, with sessions devoted to word problems, numerical reasoning, and the type of maths puzzles encountered on the Consortium exam and City boys assessment.

The group will be led by Tom Parkinson, Oliver Ford and Laurie Coldwell. Tom co-founded Winterwood in 2011 and has led entrance exam group courses for the past ten years. His students have an excellent success rate, consistently being offered places at leading academic schools. Oliver and Laurie have worked in the industry for the past twelve years, and have a huge range of entrance exam experience, creating bespoke non-verbal reasoning and maths content for Winterwood. Tom, Oliver and Laurie engage students through learning games, and students will have the opportunity to earn points to win prizes!
